Southfield breaks ground on a $26 million aquatic center, opening winter 2028

SOUTHFIELD. Construction has started on a $26 million aquatic center, a 28,000 square foot addition plus renovation of about 10,000 square feet of existing space. The city expects it open in winter 2028. The old outdoor pool comes down as part of the project.

The plans include a 4,900 square foot leisure pool with shallow entry, a splash pad with ground jets and two kiddie racer slides, a lazy river with a conversation cove, and an indoor-outdoor water slide that loops from outside back in. A four lane, 75 foot lap pool gets starting blocks, and a therapeutic pool adds built-in benches and jets for water aerobics.

The building also gets new locker rooms, renovated entrances, an event space, a wet classroom for swim lessons, and a renovated lounge corridor.
