Adriana Rendon: Southwest Detroit's new arts academy gets its principal
DETROIT. Adriana Rendon is the founding principal of the Southwest International Academy of Arts and Culture, a new Detroit Public Schools Community District school opening fall 2027 in Southwest Detroit.
Rendon moves over from Neinas Dual Language Learning Academy, where she's principal now. She's a Cass Technical High School graduate who studied chemical engineering at the University of Michigan before switching to teaching, then earned a master's degree and her teaching certificate at Wayne State.
Southwest Detroit has no middle school right now. The new academy will teach arts and culture, including music, dance such as Baile folklorico, and visual arts, with a path into Detroit School of the Arts.
